Fabric Craft & Care FAQ

What is the difference between handblock prints and digital prints?
Handblock printing is a slow, manual heritage art. Artisans align and stamp dye using hand-carved wooden blocks. This creates unique, minute variations in print registration and saturation, making each meter distinct. Digital printing is done by industrial inkjet machines over synthetic fabrics and lacks this tactile warmth, organic charm, and dye penetration.
Why do handloom cottons and linens have small weave irregularities?
Small slubs (slight thickening of threads) and slight weave variations are not structural defects. They are the signature of handloom fabrics. Hand-spun yarn varies naturally in thickness, which captures light unevenly and gives the fabric its premium texture and breathability that synthetic mill-made fabrics cannot replicate.
